How it works

Three steps on YouTube

  1. 1

    Open a video with captions

Uploaded captions and YouTube's auto-generated captions both work. dubly.me translates from them, so the video needs at least one track.

  2. 2

    Choose your language and mode

In the dubly.me popup, pick the language you want to hear and Dubbed voice, Subtitles or Both.

  3. 3

    Press Dub

dubly.me starts reading the captions in your language. Dubbing pauses while an ad plays.

Before you start

What YouTube dubbing needs

The video needs captions, uploaded by the author or auto-generated by YouTube. dubly.me does not use audio transcription on YouTube.

Pages
YouTube watch pages, Shorts and m.youtube.com. YouTube players embedded on other sites are not supported.
Caption choice
Human-written English captions first, then auto-generated English, then the first track available.
Caption type
The popup shows whether the captions are human-written or auto-generated. With auto-generated captions, dubbing quality may vary.
Video speed
When a translated line is long, dubly.me slows the video slightly so the voice can finish.
Ads
Dubbing pauses while an ad plays.
Browsers
Chrome and Firefox. Firefox on Android works on m.youtube.com.

Questions

YouTube questions

Why does dubly.me say this video has no captions?

dubly.me translates the video's captions. If the author uploaded none and YouTube has not generated any, there is nothing to translate. Try another video, or check the CC button in the YouTube player.

Can I get only translated subtitles, without a voice?

Yes. Choose Subtitles in the popup. dubly.me shows the translated line on the video and does not speak. It uses the same daily minutes as dubbing.

Is dubly.me free on YouTube?

Yes. You get 10 minutes a day without an account and 30 minutes a day with a free account, translated with YouTube’s own auto-translate. The Basic plan (€5 a month) gives up to 9 hours of dubbing a day and AI translation as an option.

Does it work on YouTube videos embedded on other websites?

No. Open the video on youtube.com and press Dub there.
